“A thrilling victory at Wrigley as the Dodgers dominate the Cubs”2025
Wrigley Field’s iconic ivy the energy of the crowd and the tension that rises with each batswitch all contribute to the electrifying atmosphere of baseball under the lights. The Los Angeles Dodgers however were the only thing more electrifying than the atmosphere last night. They came to Chicago and put on a clinic thrashing the Cubs 9–3 in a decisive victory that made it obvious that this team is serious.

Early Fireworks: Dodgers Strike Fast
The Dodgers appeared to be in control from the first pitch. Mookie Betts set the tone early in the game with a brilliant double into the left-field corner. Shohei Ohtani followed up with a towering two-run blast that cleared the right field stands and may still be in orbit but it took all three pitches.
Ohtani who has been a force to be reckoned with since Opening Day keeps proving why he was the most sought-after offseason prize. He was the star of the show last night going 3-for-4 with a homer a double three RBIs and a walk. His cockiness? Unrivalled. His swing? Poetry that is straightforward.
Gavin Stone Shines on the Mound
The bats were noisy but Gavin Stone’s arm was just as amazing. In six innings of one-run ball the young right-hander who was making his third start of the season silenced the Cubs’ lineup. His poise was lacking his changeup was dirty and his command was sharp. You would think he had been a vet for ten years.
Stone kept Chicago off balance all night long by striking out seven and walking just one. Stone’s performances are just what the Dodgers need to continue their early-season dominance especially since Walker Buehler is still recovering.
Cubs Struggle to Find Rhythm
Although Nico Hoerner scored two runs with a double with two outs in the seventh inning the damage had already been done so it wasn’t all bad news for the Cubs. The Dodgers’ bullpen led by Brusdar Graterol and Evan Phillips slammed the door shut with authority despite the North Side fans’ best efforts to rally behind their team.
Jameson Taillon the Cubs’ starter gave up five runs in four innings and never really settled in as he struggled to keep the Dodgers off the basepaths. Defensive errors also didn’t help; in the third inning a costly throwing error set the stage for a three-run inning that gave Los Angeles complete control.
Ohtani + Freddie = Fearsome
The danger of this Dodgers lineup cannot be overstated. It seems unfair to have Freddie Freeman and Ohtani in the same order. Freeman demonstrated once more why he is among the most reliable and skilled hitters in the game by driving in two runs and adding two of his own. For pitchers it’s more than just a lineup when those two are locked in.
In a game full of fireworks the Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the Chicago Cubs last night at Wrigley Field. The Dodgers reminded everyone why they are among the top contenders this season with a convincing victory thanks to clutch hitting strong pitching and some incredible defensive plays.
What’s Next?
Tonight Bobby Miller will take the mound for Los Angeles in the Dodgers vs. Cubs series finale. Chicago will attempt to rally behind Marcus Stroman but they will require more than just strong pitching; they must figure out how to halt the Dodgers’ unrelenting offensive machine.
But for the time being Los Angeles is leading and if last night’s performance is any guide the rest of Major League Baseball should be extremely cautious. L.A. took a commanding lead thanks to Freddie Freeman’s two-run double in the third after Mookie Betts’ leadoff homer set the tone early. Walker Buehler looked good on the mound holding the Cubs’ offence at bay for six solid innings.
